It looks as if the New York Mets are on the verge of signing third-round 2019 MLB Draft pick Matthew Allan, according to a report Wednesday from MLB Network insider Jon Heyman.

However, the Mets haven’t confirmed the report as of yet.

If New York does, though, it would be a huge plus for the organization, as baseball draft experts ranked the 18-year-old righty as a mid-first-round selection. But Allen dropped to No. 89 overall to the Mets due to signability issues because of his potential asking price of a steep four million dollars.

Allen is committed to the University of Florida but could receive up to $2,523,830 without New York surrendering a future first-round pick, according to MLB.com’s Jim Callis, who tweeted it on Monday.

Allen’s signing would complete all of the Mets’ first ten round selections to pen-to-paper deals, including No. 12 overall draft choice Brett Baty and New York’s second-round right-handed pick Josh Wolf (36th overall).

This will surely give New York’s farm system a much-needed shot in the arm after losing highly touted prospects outfielder Jarred Kelenic and pitcher Justin Dunn in the Robinson Cano and Edwin Diaz offseason trade.
